* All calculations are approximate.

How GST Calculator Works?

Calculate GST amount, CGST, SGST, and total amount for any goods or services under Indian GST rates.

1

Enter the amount (either the base price or the GST-inclusive price).

2

Select the applicable GST rate slab (5%, 12%, 18%, or 28%).

3

Choose the calculation type — GST Exclusive (add GST) or GST Inclusive (extract GST).

4

For exclusive calculation, the GST amount is added to the base price to get the total.

5

The GST is split equally into CGST and SGST for intra-state transactions.

Formula Used

GST Exclusive: GST Amount = Base Amount x (GST Rate / 100) | Total = Base Amount + GST Amount | GST Inclusive: Base Amount = Total / (1 + GST Rate / 100) | CGST = SGST = GST Amount / 2

CGST and SGST apply to intra-state (within same state) transactions. For inter-state transactions, IGST is levied at the full GST rate instead. Always verify the correct HSN/SAC code for the applicable GST slab.

Important — Read Before You Decide

  • GST rates differ by product category — verify the correct slab
  • IGST applies for inter-state transactions instead of CGST+SGST
  • Composition scheme dealers have different GST rates
  • Input tax credit can offset GST paid on purchases
  • GST return filing deadlines have strict penalties for delays
  • E-invoicing is mandatory above certain turnover thresholds
  • Reverse charge mechanism applies to certain services
  • GST exemptions exist for essential goods and services

What Happens If You Ignore These?

  • Wrong GST rate application leads to compliance penalties
  • Not claiming input tax credit increases effective tax burden
  • Late GST filing attracts interest and late fees
  • Incorrect invoicing can lead to credit rejection for buyers
  • Underreporting GST liability triggers audits and penalties

Smart Tips

  • Always verify the HSN/SAC code for correct GST rate
  • Maintain proper records for input tax credit claims
  • File GST returns on time to avoid penalties
  • Use GST-inclusive pricing for retail to simplify customer experience
  • Reconcile GSTR-2A regularly to catch mismatches early
