How Trip Budget Calculator Works?
Plan your travel budget with detailed estimates for accommodation, food, transport, and activities with an emergency buffer.
Select whether your trip is domestic (India) or international — this affects cost multipliers.
Enter the number of travellers and trip duration in days.
Input daily costs for accommodation, food per person, and local transport, plus a total activities and sightseeing budget.
The calculator computes totals for each category: accommodation and food are multiplied by days, food also by number of travellers.
A 15% emergency buffer is automatically added, and results show total budget, per-person cost, and per-day cost.
Formula Used
Accommodation Total = Daily Accommodation × Days; Food Total = Daily Food × Travellers × Days; Transport Total = Daily Transport × Days; Subtotal = Accommodation + Food + Transport + Activities; Emergency Buffer = Subtotal × 15%; Total = Subtotal + Buffer
Book flights and hotels 4-8 weeks in advance for best prices. Peak season and festive periods can double accommodation and flight costs.
Important — Read Before You Decide
- Domestic flight prices can vary 3–5x between booking early and last-minute
- International travel requires budgeting for visa fees, forex charges, and travel insurance
- Peak season (holidays, festivals) can double hotel and flight prices
- Local transport costs in tourist areas are often inflated — negotiate or use apps
- Travel insurance is often skipped but covers medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and lost luggage
- Currency exchange rates at airports are typically 3–5% worse than in the city
- Many tourist attractions charge separately for camera fees, guide fees, and parking
- Booking platforms may show prices without taxes — always check the final amount
What Happens If You Ignore These?
- Underestimating trip costs leads to cutting the trip short or borrowing money
- Not keeping an emergency buffer can leave you stranded in case of unexpected events
- Forgetting hidden costs like visa fees, tips, and SIM cards blows the budget
- Overspending early in the trip forces extreme frugality in the last few days
- Not accounting for currency fluctuations can cost 10–15% more for international trips
Smart Tips
- Book flights and hotels 4–8 weeks in advance for the best domestic deals
- Use travel credit cards that offer airport lounge access and travel insurance
- Carry a mix of cash, card, and UPI for flexibility across locations
- Download offline maps and translation apps before international trips
- Look for homestays and hostels for 40–60% savings on accommodation
